There's no question about it. mid 60s Strats are some of the best guitars to come out of the Fender factory. The sale to CBS brought Leo and his team to optimum. Generally speaking, most Strats were finished in Sunburst. Fender however, also offered custom colors like Candy Apple Red, Fiesta Red, Seaform Green and of course, black. Even rarer were the finish over finish Stratocaster guitars.
Here we have for you a black over sunburst Fender Custom Shop 65 Relic Stratocaster. The relic on this one is pretty subtle and looks great. The fun part is, that if you play it long enough, tour with it etc. You will slowly add natural relic to it, resulting in more of the Sunburst showing beneath the black.
We really like this Fender Stratocaster, tonally and visually alike. It is a great one!
